We offer complete hot rod carb rebuild services on Stromberg 97-48-81 and on all models of holley 3-bolt carbs (mod 94). We also build all models of the two barrel rochester 2gs.We build the holley single barrel 847 as well as the model B rochester for your inline 6 engines. We set up  multi-carb setups and supply linkage and fuel supply systems. I can offer you  kits and most internal hard parts for the above carbs. We do offer zinc, nickel,cadmium, and chrome plating for carbs and linkages.-. We  also offer yellow,bronze or olive drab green cromate finishes on carb bodies. Polished and chrome carbs available for your hot rod.I have carb cores to sell outright or I can do yours. All parts and carbs are guaranteed. I have allmost 40 years experence- ( my 1963 senior year car was a '40 ford coupe with a 401" Buick Nailhead with 6 Stromberg 97's). STROMBERG 97's--48's--and--81's

Vintage Speed has the largest selection of parts for the Stromberg "97's--48's--81's"in the world.We offer rebuild kits and every hard part needed as well as repairs, coloring and plating. We make more new parts for this carb than anyone.
History of the famous Stromberg Models
Of all the parts  for hot rods in the '40s- '50s and '60s-- the Stromberg  is King. Almost every Hotrod of this era had a pair, trips or up to six or eight with chrome scoops or bonnets. I will give you a brief history of the three models most popular for use on Hot Rods.

Stromberg model "48"
The model 48 had a 1-1/32" venturi  and named for the jet size .048" I think. It was standard equipment on the late 1934 and all 1935 ford v-8 pass. cars and trucks. Most of these carbs are not marked 48 but some (not all) have the venturi size 1 1/32 stamped on the side of the bowl . This carb looks identical to the 97 and in fact uses the same base. The bases are marked ee-1. The top of the 48 will fit the 97 and many 97's I find have 48 tops, and 48's will have the 97 tops---although the choke linkage ball detent is not found on the 48 top. The 48 makes a great hot rod carb  because of the increase cfm (aprox. 170) over the 155 cfm of the "97".  The actual flow bench checks show that in test  the carb flow rates are not real consistant and a good flowing 97 will actually flow almost the same as some 48s. I think this is caused by the different casting molds used by Stomberg and sub contractors over the years not being consistant. Die casting was  a new thing to the industry back then and they had a few problems. I like the 48 carb for most overhead valve setups and hot flathead dual intakes. They are gaining in popularity fast today as guys find out just how good they perform with that extra 1/16" of venturi ( 31/32" vs 1 1/32").    The good cores are getting harder to find due to the growing demand for the" 48" carbs  today.

Stromberg model "97"
The model "97" had a 31/32 " or 97/100s" venturi and was standard equipment on the 1936, 1937 and a few early '38 ford pass. cars and trucks with the v-8 flatrhead engine. This carb. was made for many years as a replacement unit after it became obsolete on ford cars and trucks. The Stromberg" 97" is the most famous of all hot rod carbs. Some are marked with a large raised" 97" inside a circle on the side of the bowl --some have a small raised"97" --others have a small stamped 97 --and still others have no markings at all. Look for the 31/32" venturi size  marked on the side of the bowl on some, but not all "97s". Stromberg 97 bases are usually marked EE-1 and are the same as the model 48. The good cores  that havn't been chromed--broken--polished--sanded---modified-- stored outside----froze---cut--ground on--and beat on with large hard objects ---------------are getting hard to find and costly with the popularity of nostalia hot rods today.

Stromberg model "81"
The model 81 had a small 13/16"or 81/100s" venturi and was standard equipment on the 1937 and 1938 fords with the small V-8--60 engine. This carb was very popular with the midget racers using the v-8 -60 in years past and even today.  It was not produced in large amounts and good cores are rare today. This little carb. flowed about 125 cfm and make great hot rod carbs for small inch motors. Souped up Model A  and B Ford  and the little v-8 60 V-8 use these alot.  The body section and the base are much smaller inside on the 81 but the outside dimensions looks the same. Most are marked with a large 81 on the side of the bowl, but all have the 13/16 venturi size stamped on the side of the bowl. The 81 uses a smaller base with tiny throttle plates marked EE-7/8.

Note: Every part of our carbs excluding the cast base is plated-- screws--nuts, --bolts,-linkage rods,--throttle shaft hardware and throttle plates --all bright plated. The body sections are zinc plated prior to the  cromate process to give our carbs the most beautiful- durable finish in the industry.

History of the Holley 94  and other 3 bolt Holleys
Chandler groves co. designed the 94 carb. and supplied most of the production to ford for the 1938 year V-8 models excluding the V-8 -60 which used the stromberg 81. Most Ford cars in 1938 with the large V-8 used a chandler Groves carb. These carbs are quite scarce and are marked chandler groves on the side of the bowl.
The holleys- Starting in 1939 holley manufactured all the carbs for the ford V-8s up until 1957--the following are the models used. All are quite similar in looks and operation-some with or without vaccum and linkage changes. All the carbs in the list below had a 94 on the rear of the bowl which was the venturi size --   94/100s "

1938 only-- mod. Chandler -Groves-"94"
1939-'41----mod. #91-99 ------------trucks used the same carb.       
1942-'45----mod. #21-29-------------trucks used the same carb.
1946-'48----mod. #59-----------------'47-'48 trucks used a mod.# 7RT
1949-'51----mod. #8ba----------------trucks used a mod.# 7RT--'51 used an 8RT
1952-'53----mod. #EAB--------------trucks used a mod.# 8RT
1954---------mod. #EBU--------------'54-'55 trucks used a mod.# EBV

Holley also made some replacement carbs mod.#2100 with the 94/100s" venturi. The later Y-blocks '55-'56 used ECGs with 1-1/16" venturi-----EBVs with 1" venturi and the model 2110 with a larger 1 5/32" venturi. The venturi size will be marked on the rear of the bowl. Holley also produced a mod.#92 which was the replacement carb for the little Stromberg 81 used on the V-8  60. This carb. is marked 81 on the rear of the bowl and usually marked mod.# 92 on the side of the bowl.This is a dynomite small carb to use but it is very hard to find. The 81 was the venturi size 81/100s" or 13/16" which is the same as the Stromberg 81 it replaced. All the 94 types had   94 on the back of the bowl with the model # stamped on the side of the bowl. Some will not have a model # only the 94----these were parts store universal carbs.  A lot of the original carbs were marked Ford in large script on the side--but were still made by Holley. The Mod. 94 was a favorite with Hot rodders--fits the 3 bolt intakes and is a much more modern design than the old stromberg which it replaced. This carb has better mid-range and high speed circuits than the stromberg but requires modification for multi-carb setups because of the vaccum power valve.

History of the Rochester 2g--2gc-2gv
First used on the Chev. V-8 265" in 1955 this carb stayed with GM up until the late 70's in differant base and venturi sizes. It was used on the 348" Chev. in a factory tri-power set-ups in '58-'59 and and the early Caddys and Olds. tri-power units in the late 50's. As the muscle car era came in the 60's the rochester was used on the popular GTO in several tri-power carb. combinations. There is a large and small base   unit so make sure the carbs you use match your manifold.
The small base carb with the 1-5/32" venturi and the side fuel inlet is the most popular hotrod carb. Most rochester carbs are used on the Chev. SB setups and other   GM multi carb units. As the emissions era of the 70's came -engineers added more and more junk to these carbs to comply with regulations. Try to match units so they look alike and the venturi size is the same. This is a simple, reliable carb if set up by someone with the proper equip.  The mod. 2G used mainly on marine or trucks had a manual choke. The mod. 2gc had a automatic heat choke. and the mod. 2gv used a vaccum choke.I have electric choke conversions to change your center carb from the old heat tube to a clean modern electric choke. We also make new alum. bases for the end carbs. These units will fit all the 2gcs and 2gv tops but you will need a top with a mount spot on the truck and marine carbs that have a manual cable type choke.-I have extra tops.

ITEMS WE OFFER ----We offer nostalia style color tinted vinyl fuel hose. This looks just like the stuff we used in the 50's-60's only it wont crack or discolor like the old hose. Thick wall vinyl line is over 80 psi burst pressure (hint---strombergs and holleys operate best at less than 3 psi.) available in the following tinted colors- Red--blue--green--yellow--and clear-----Customs colors to match your car only $5.00 extra. I have this hose available in 5/16" and 3/8" same price.  State size and color with order.

We make welded polished stainless fuel line kits as well as the traditional setups with a fuel block.

I have fuel inlet fittings for all the HOT ROD carbs

Polished stainless fuel lines and  chrome blocks

The set-ups below use polished  fuel blocks , all fuel block and carb fittings are bright plated- Polished stainless lines (3/8 o.d. standard) are precision bent with 15/16"radius. Compression type fittings we use allow you to remove and replace lines for service on your engine as often as you want. We can install a fuel regulator in your fuel block for an additional $39 ,(includes chrome adjustable regulator and fittings)                              You should use a fuel regulator with the early style carbs.
